I can't disagree there - I really miss deck construction. The best we can do here is excise extraneous cards from the sideboard to focus our deck in a given direction as best as possible. More cards is definitely not better.

There has been some talk from the developer about eventually opening up full deck creation. I am guessing that fixed decks were part of the agreement with WotC that originally allowed Stainless to secure the license.

Good to hear that the game was launched for Steam - I'll have to go see if it's offered for Steam for Mac too! :)

I recently bought DotP for the PC (via steam).

While I agree it has good value, the decision about sideboard really sucks. Not only it makes your decks WORST when you'd feel they should be improving, it also teaches new people a wrong rule and don't let them understand one of the basic concepts of deck building, maximizing the chace you'll draw the right card, not having 100 cards on a deck and playing in a very random way. They should really change it.

[...] Having Fun with AvP (Xbox 360) At first, I wasn't going to buy the game due to the crummy reviews. But the heck with the crowd - I love this franchise. I'm currently playing the Marine campaign and enjoying it very much - just like I'd enjoyed the original 1999 AvP. More later as I progress in the game, but don't let the lukewarm reviews dissuade you - the game is fun. It might not be as refined as a Gears of War or MW2 or whatever, but if you're a fan of the franchise, you'll dig it. More here about my reaction to the reviews: Short, Controlled Bursts Blog Archive Aliens vs Predator: Resist the Lure of the Hive Mind! [...]

Unfortunately I prefer to play shooters in co-op with friends. Since AvP doesn't have that capability I just can't get into it. It's the same reason I haven't played Bioshock or Dead Space. Well that and the survival horror aspect... which from your description this seems to invoke. I'm sure I'll try it out at some point, but with all the great releases first quarter this one falls to the wayside.

I'm TOTALLY on board with Aliens: Colonial Marines though. That sounds like EXACTLY the Aliens game I want to play :D

Heh, yeah that was certainly part of my decision: "Wait - *I'm* one of the guys who's supposed to be advocating this game!" Plus, I also want to wallet-vote "yes" and help show Sega that the fans are out here.

The long tail is that Gearbox is chugging away on Aliens: Colonial Marines, and I don't think I've ever been more excited for a game. We need Sega to keep all the lights green! I was excited initially, but after experiencing Borderlands, how could I not be chomping at the bit for Randy Pitchford and Co's take on the franchise?!?

Yeah, it's kind of a given that when your site is called "Short, Controlled Bursts", you really REALLY need to get an AvP game.

That's the way to be Lance! I've played through many games critics hated and I loved. Though from what I've read a lot of the fans like it. Let me know how it is and maybe I'll join you in the fight soon... that is just as soon as I get past a few of these game reviews...

I ended up choosing Soldier. That's what I played in the first game, so I figured keeping the same class would help keep me immersed in the story thread.

I am *really* enjoying this game!
